Meet Khoa D. Nguyen, OD

Dr. Khoa Nguyen is a licensed Doctor of Optometry specializing in comprehensive and medical eye care.

For nearly a decade, he has served the Hawai‘i Island community, caring for cataracts, glaucoma, diabetic and hypertensive retinopathy, macular degeneration, thyroid eye disease, dry eye, ocular allergies and other eye conditions.

Specialty Care Coordinated From Kona

When surgery or subspecialty care is appropriate, Dr. Nguyen works closely with ophthalmologists on Hawai‘i Island and O‘ahu.

He coordinates referrals for cataract surgery, pterygium removal, retinal treatment, corneal transplantation, glaucoma procedures, retinal detachment repair and eyelid or ocular lesion surgery.

When clinically appropriate, postoperative visits and continued co-management may be completed locally in Kona, helping patients maintain continuity of care while reducing unnecessary travel.

Do you provide both routine and medical eye care?

Yes. Dr. Nguyen provides comprehensive eye examinations as well as evaluation and management of many medical eye conditions. The appropriate visit type depends on your symptoms, diagnosis and insurance benefits.

Yes, urgent appointments may be available for symptoms such as eye pain, red eye, sudden blurry vision, new flashes or floaters, foreign bodies and contact-lens complications. Call the office so the team can guide you.

Dr. Nguyen does not perform cataract or retinal surgery. He evaluates patients, coordinates referrals with ophthalmologists and may provide appropriate preoperative or postoperative co-management locally.

Dr. Nguyen speaks English and Vietnamese and has intermediate proficiency in Spanish.
